Children's Scholarship Fund – Charlotte is a non-profit organization dedicated to expanding educational opportunities to low-income families in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. Our tuition assistance helps nearly 400 children each year attend a private or parochial school that their families could not otherwise afford. Since 1999, our families have chosen 60 tuition-based schools, both religious and secular.
We choose our families through an annual, random lottery, and guarantee partial tuition assistance until the eighth grade.
Our scholarships are based upon family income and tuition amount, and vary from family to family. Our average scholarship is more than $1,700 per year, with a cap amount of $2,150 for kindergarten through the eighth grade.
Children's Scholarship Fund – Charlotte, a fund of Foundation For The Carolinas, is supported entirely by private donations. As one of over 30 local affiliates across the U.S., we also receive matching funding from the national Children's Scholarship Fund. The national organization has awarded over 40,000 scholarships over the past six years, amounting to $200 million. CSF is the largest private educational initiative of its kind in the country and was named one of the top 100 best charities in the U.S. by Worth magazine.
