Mission
Children's Scholarship Fund - Charlotte is non-profit organization dedicated to expanding educational opportunities to lower-income families in the Charlotte area. Since 1999, we have provided tuition assistance enabling nearly 400 students per year to attend the private or parochial school of their choice. Our mission is based upon a simple premise: that children are our most precious resource and what we do to help them not only makes their futures brighter, but also makes our families stronger and our community better.
History
Ted Forstmann and John Walton founded Children’s Scholarship Fund in 1998 with $100 million and a goal of providing scholarships to low-income families so that their children could attend the tuition-based schools of their choice.
They recruited matching donors across the country and increased the initial pool of funding to $190 million, expanding the program to 43 cities.
Julian Robertson, a Salisbury, NC native and founder of Tiger Management, agreed to be the matching donor for a CSF affiliate program in Charlotte. Since its inception in 1999, CFS-Charlotte has provided nearly 400 children each year with the opportunity to attend to the schools of their choice. We actively seek donations from individuals, corporations and foundations so that we may continue to help children and families in our community.
